WTF?! SRSLY?!?

The fuck is a dope boy allstar? Ehhh urban dictionary likes to give the following definition:
Dope Boy All Star
1. Any person who distributes illicit substances. The term is most often used to describe a young male that excels at selling to a specific geographic area or neighbourhood, and most likely moves hard drugs (ex. cocaine, crack), as well as the standard marijuana and prescription pills. A ‘Dope Boy All Star’ IS the hood entrepreneur.
2. A person in the dope game who rises above the rest to become a player amongst players.
“You’re movin’ bricks like a Dope Boy All Star.”
“I’m a Dope Boy Allstar. I don’t have a habit yet, I’m doing good so far.”

Let’s be honest here: Galapaghost sounds a lot like a lot of stuff we’ve already heard. True.
But you can probably name 5 bands you love the shit out of that sound a lot alike, right? Well, so can we. For starters: The Magnetic Fields, Dent May & His Magnificient Ukelele, Fleet Foxes, Fools Gold, and The Silent Years. Am I right or am I right? Ok, KINDA right. Anyway, whatever. I’m stoked cause I’ve got pages of email sitting in my inbox from bands and musicians who are all probably pretty good. I picked this one at random and tonight I’m happy to say that Galapaghost is worth way more than your time.
This fucking kid is AMAZING. Listen, and afterwards go buy his EP, Our Lost Generation from amazon. It’s good to be back.

I get really, really skeptical when bands who send me music to review list REALLY GOOD artists under their “Influences.” So I was immediately expecting an aural atrocity when I visited Daddy Lion’s myspace page and they had the following artists listed as major influences: Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Iggy Pop, Bowie, Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth, T. Rex, Buddy Holly, Beatles, Pavement, and Modest Mouse. The majority of that list would absolutely fall into my top 50 favorite artists ever and I hate when bands that totally suck SWEAR they sound like something that totally doesn’t suck. But Daddy Lion kinda did themselves justice.
I mean, I’m not maintaining that they’re AS GOOD AS anyone on that list, but they do kinda sound like ‘em and they do kinda sound good. Better than about 90% of the indie-ish pop rock that tends to infiltrate my inbox. Have a listen:
Thoughts?
You’ve all heard both of these songs already, and we probably woulda posted them ages ago had it not been for STUPID *****host breaking our FREAKING servers every other day. Thanks a lot, hosting service, for sucking ass and making us fall behind on like, everything. Ugh. Anyway, Beach House and Yeasayer are 2 of our very favorite current artists here at the weapon and they’re both gearing up for new releases in early 2010. STOKED! Baltimore babes Beach House are set to release Teen Dream via Sub Pop on January 26th. Tracks include some good ones “Norway” and “Used To Be” - we think it’s gonna be positively FAB. Listen below and spill your guts in the comments.

Baltimore band Beach House playing a new song, Used to Be, in one spontaneous take for Shoot the Player - where else but at the beach in Sydney.
And as for Yeasayer - they’re aiming for a February 6th release of Odd Blood via Secretly Canadian. We looooooove the pants off of this band and have foolishly passed up every single opportunity to see them live. It kills. They do, however, have a whole SLEW of tour dates scheduled, one of which happens to be in Philly. Hopefully our dear JV will be willing to make an appearance in May? Regardless, we do hope to catch ‘em somewhere in 2010. Anyway, dig the new track “Ambling Alp” and get your free download of the single by visiting their killer website. Merry xmas to all, and to all a happy Wednesday.
Oh, and not like we haven’t posted it before, but 2080 is one of the best songs ever. Seriously.
Until pretty recently I had no idea what “ABC BBD” actually meant. I’m not sure where the epiphany came from but it came just the same, so enter another (late) version of the Flashback Friday post, featuring The East Coast Family. Howcome nothing sounds like this anymore?
Happy Saturday.
Boyz II Men - Motownphilly
ABC = Another Bad Creation. Enter “Iesha” -
BBD = can you guess? Yea, that’s right. Bel Bev Devoe - Poison
I’m not sure how anybody could be bummed out by much of anything if this shit’s all they listen to. I can’t really figure out how anyone could take them seriously, either, but that doesn’t change the fact that this stuff still sounds good, a whole 20 years later. 20 years, man. We are getting old.
Love of mine some day you will die
But I’ll be close behind
I’ll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
“Son fear is the heart of love”
So I never went back
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It’s nothing to cry about
‘cause we’ll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
we can’t stop listening to this song.
